Artist Spotlight: Fatima "Miss Tima" Gaskin

Welcome to Fashion Plus Blog' s new segment Artist Spotlight, geared towards the support and  progression of various types of artists. As newcomers in our chosen industries, it's difficult to navigate, and network among our peers; for this reason we felt it was our mission to showcase the talents of a new generation of artist, established or up and coming.

Fashion Plus Blog's first artist in the spotlight FATIMA GASKIN! This young woman has not only accomplished incredible things, she has also done it with determination and grace. Hailing from Newark, New Jersey Fatima attended Spelman College in Atlanta, has joined the Navy and is currently on active duty, while nurturing a modeling career, and raising a young man.  Forget Jack of all trades; take your left hand and beat the hell out of your right hand, and give it up to JANE OF ALL TRADES!

Realizing that giving back to the community is beneficial for not only the soul, but teaches our youth to appreciate their beginnings, and  look forward to future possibilities, Fatima and her son work as volunteers in a number of charities including Goodwill Drives, Breast Cancer Awareness fundraising, and sign up for work in soup kitchens. Never missing a beat, she also supports her son in his extra curricular activities; such as karate, gymnastics, and Lego robotics club.

Her bodies of work include:

- Print/Runway modeling
- Fashion/Film/ and Video services\
- Writings for print/online publications
- Advertisements for clothing/shoes/accessory/ and other products campaigns
- TV/Radio

My favorite quote from Fatima "Miss Tima" Gaskin:

"I learned I don't fit into the box of standard or plus size in modeling and instead of letting that stop me I owned it as another unique factor about myself."

Fatima has defiantly earned her spot on ARTIST SPOTLIGHT!

Bodacious Brides!

Kelly Rowland isn't the only lucky lady getting married, watch out for the THICK brides! Yes ladies, the day we all look forward to...DUAL INCOME otherwise known as getting married. There are so many details to consider, and loads of wrong turns that can be made. How do we avoid all this? Simply by getting a wedding planner, but if your like me and have a budget that's NOT an option. What's a bride to do?

First of all get your head in the game! This is not a problem but a challenge, a conundrum is you will; that must be solved before the big day. First pick your date, what do you see when you envision your wedding? Are you outside, inside, spring time, summer time, or fall? The date you pick correlates with the season and affects your choice of dress for you and your wedding party.

Next, choose your colors. Big girls, we can wear any color we want, just make sure it suits you or your
wedding party. Also, who says the bride has to wear white? White is traditionally for virgins, let's keep it
100; most of us are not virgins we just keep the tradition going. You can be adventurous with the color scheme to make a truly unique vision come to life.

The next focus should be on your venue. Besides finding the perfect dress, the venue is the second hardest task of putting together a wedding. You have to decide if you want the reception to be in same place as the ceremony or travel to two separate places.  Keep in mind separate places means SEPARATE deposits. By choosing different areas you will be spending more money, but if it can't be avoided then a woman's got to do, what a woman's got to do!

Then, you want to focus on all the small things that can get lost in the chaos of planning a wedding. Like for example, deciding how to style your hair. If your an anal bride (LOL) you would also choose how you'd like your wedding party to style their hair also. Sometimes you can leave stuff like this to chance, but WHY?

Also, don't forget shoes and accessories, and the all important Wedding Night Lingerie. This is the night to let all your inhibitions run FREE, your with your life partner, so there is no
Here are a few thangs that can get the party started real quick:

Lastly, ladies say YES to the dress! with all the different selections out in the bridal world it can be more than
overwhelming to decide on the dress that will be timeless, elegant, and memorable. As a plus size women, I refuse to stick with the same boxy design that most luscious size ladies do. I would want something that reflects my personality, pushes the envelope of traditional thinking, and of course is drop dead sexy! Check out some dress choices that I thought would suit every type of bride, from traditional to over the top!

As as you search for dresses remember everything isn't for everybody, LIKE THIS...

And PLEASE remember this! Spanx or any other shaping garment can help hid what you don't want people to see, and accentuate what you do!
Any questions, comments, or concerns please leave me a comment below! As always, STAY BEAUTIFUL, CONFIDENT, AND ABOVE ALL SEXY!

XOXO!

Lost In You

If you follow my blog, Facebook, or YouTube page then you know I love to write. Nothing makes me feel better especially on times of stress. The best thing about writing is the places the story can take you, the images in your mind, and the mystery of the authors meaning. Writing is a wonderful outlet, has beautiful imagery, and if its a great body of work can stimulate others. This poem I wrote is one that suggests mystery(for me anyway), I wonder if you can guess what is being talked about?

Lost In You:

You've caressed my face with your warm feel,
Intoxicated my senses with your sweet sent,
I've danced to your song, loving the rhythm you gave me,
Taking the deepest of breaths,
I'm lost in you.

I am lost in your your eyes and what lies underneath,
The deepest of browns that pierce through me,
I've inhaled your honeyed breath,
And tasted the sweetest of flavors,
Engulfed by your essence,
I bend to your pleasure,
I'm lost in you.

I've traced and outlined your body too many times to count,
Chronicling a blueprint in my mind of the reaction you've caused,
I've slept in the softness of you;hours of bliss,
To awaken comforted by the memory of your kiss,
I am lost in you.

*I wrote this with the intent to bring life to something that had none. I guess this was my attempt at showing growth as a writer. Please try and see if you can figure out what or who I'm talking about.
