The WOEM Awards: Women Of Empowerment

In how many instances are women recognized for what we contribute to the work place, organizations,  the community, or the world in general? Slim to none, right? Those accolades are mostly reserved for men of distinction; well it's time to give it up for the LADIES!

The WOEM Fashion Show And Awards:

On February 14, I was invited and received an award from the Women Of Empowerment or The WOEM; hosted by Harlemvetz entertainment/ WOEM PROJECT at The National Black Theater in Harlem, NY.

The WOEM is dedicated to the uplifting, educating, and honoring women from all walks of life, and it was my honor and privilege to among their distinguished honorees.

Celebrating with women of distinction, other honorees included
Celebrity honorees MC Sha Rock and Roxanne Shante and celebrity hosts Ms. Toi and K.O.V.E. Listing to these women speak about their lives and experiences I felt the impact of their sacrifice for their craft, and respect for the jewels they were dropping on a new generation of young entrepreneurial women who were walking in their footsteps.

They just didn't drop knowledge on the audience members, they also showed us another side of empowerment through the talented artists that were on deck throughout the event.

Among the performers include female rappers/groups, musical performances, dance performances, singers, and a special premier of 24 Hour CATWALK from designer JustRaymona Envnewyork.

Not every event is perfect, and there were some unanticipated snafu's throughout the night, but not enough to dull the light that was shining on the honorees, performers, and all the people who worked behind the scenes that made it possible for the show to come together.

Attending an event such as this was a very proud moment for me, and I can't wait to see what's planned for next years fashion and award show!

The Blog Snob: The Content Of Your Character

*exposing crap ass blogging and writing*

What is a blog, if not the content or message the writer is attempting to convey to the masses. As a blogger/writer, I don't want to just paint a pretty picture, but to tell a story in such a way that it can inspire others to do the same. With that being said, I've read not only blogs; but magazine articles that are empty in its content. Some ramble on and on without a clear focus which confuses the reader. Instead of directly telling readers what's on the writers mind, they fill up space with some small reference to comedy or innuendos that can't or won't drive home the point. When I write on a particular subject I like for my content to flow and have a purpose. For me content is the steak and potatoes of the piece your writing, the photo content is the side dish, and the dessert is all the pieces coming together to form a cohesive thought.

To create more content for your subject of choice is to really have a passion for what you are writing. If your not feeling it, then why should anyone else? Choose a subject that has merit and can make a valid point when writing. Above anything else make it make sense. It has to be relatable and understandable to different types of people not just your target audience; the goal of any artist is to be able to reach different people from all walks of life. That is what makes you, and your blog uniquely individual in the web world were most people copy each other's ideas and lose their initial voice.

Remember these words when writing!

Pre plan your blogs, I know that it's hard to come up with original content that hasn't been done by others, but you know what you want to read or hear about and chances are there is someone else in the world that has those same concerns. Take a risk and be not afraid to fall. If but you should fall be not afraid to pick yourself back up again ~ Dominique A.

Curves and Fashion Shows!

Hi Beautiful People! Last night I attended Fashion Bang Out Fashion Show in Newark, NJ; this event also supported Breast Cancer and many audience members participated in the Walk that took place earlier in the day. I was also there to support one of Fashion Plus's Beauties of the Week who walked in the show. I'm here to tell you that the designers showed up and showed off! Of course, I have my favorites and YES! there were defiantly crowd pleasers, but (there is always a but right?) I wanted to see more from the full figured community. The designers had great collections only most were for the "sweet & petite" and not for the "thick & sexy." Although, there were two designers who showcased mostly plus size garments( only very few sweet & petite) one of them show outfits were geared more for a older woman. What happened to the early 20's to mid 30's ladies?

The other designer was in a word "AWESOME" she had a different style that really brought out a woman's curves no matter the age range she was in. Most of her outfits were African inspired, and for me it was love at first sight. Unfortunately I don't have any websites, but I promise I will do some digging and post them as soon as I can. I was also happy to see that even the designers that featured small models had a few curvy girls in their roster with beautiful clothing on; however, those outfits won't fit a woman bigger than a size 18.... Well, we win some; we lose some...

Overall, we were kind of left out. For all the progress Full Figured Fashion has made there was almost no evidence of it last night. That was the only part I would have changed( well that and I would have gotten a better seat).

The fashion show itself was a great event to attend; I really got inspired by the hosts, the presenters, the designers, and last but NOT least the confidence of the models! I don't know if I could ever do what they have done, but I do know one thing they came there with a purpose and the fulfilled it with not even a hint of hesitation; and for that and the awareness that was raised for Breast Cancer I salute you!

Stay Beautiful, Confident, and Sexy!
