PSDSM Anniversary and Fashion Show Expo!

Live shows + Parties + Drinks + PLUS SIZE FASHION = A Good Time!

The Plus Size Diva-Stud Magazine Anniversary Fashion Show was a show I won't soon forget. Plus Size Diva-Stud Magazine is the brain child of Annette Jimenez Creator/CEO/ Plus Model. Filling one of many gaps in the plus size industry, Annette found her nitch with PSDSM.

PSDSM one year anniversary party was held in East Harlems Crystal Ballroom on November 6th. I hate to be late to any event, but dodging NYC traffic is no joke! Allowing myself 2 hours travel time; I drove some of the way, took a bus, the subway, and because of my poor navigational skills the CHEAPEST NYC cab ride ever to reach my destination. Needless to say I was 45 minutes late, but still fabulously dressed if I must say so myself๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘—๐Ÿ’„๐Ÿ˜‰!

While waiting for the elevator I was had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Louis Prada host of the event, and was also impeccably dressed himself, so in terms of networking the night was off to a good start. Taking my seat it the VIP section I sat among for lack of better word Plus Size Fashion "HEAVY WEIGHTS" like Plus Size Designer JustRaymona and M.U.A, Stylist, and Managing Editor of Full Blossom Magazine Magazine Barbie Armstrong; to say I was in fashion heaven would be an understatement! Through the course of the evening I learned quite a bit from these divas, things from hem lines to proper foundations; being a great student I sat back and absorbed all that I could.

As the models and designers began to showcase their collectons down the runway I readied my phone with anticipation. The collections shown that night were beautiful. Each designer put their imagination and personal style to work showing men's and women's clothing. Each had a "show peice" that was a bit unconventional but nice none the less. I loved each collection, but I was pleasently surprised to see that a good friend of mine JUUL of JUUL COUTURE showcased her designs at the show! Not seeing her In a while I had to express how proud and happy I am to see her doing her thang on the runway. Wearing too many hats to count (designer, makeup artist, model, etc.) I know my girl was going to wow me with her collecton, and she did not disappoint!

It's far from easy to take your dream (more like your baby), and the passion you have to persue it and show it to the world (believe me I know, MY FIRST NOVEL IS COMING OUT SOON!). I can't articulate in words how happy I am that I was a witness to hard work, and passion everyone showed. Not just the designers who made the clothing, but the models, organizers, volunteers, hosts/hostesses, and Mrs. Jeminez for pulling it together.

But not everything is rosy in the world of fashion! Not even the cocktails could camouflage the repeated disruptions caused by the music engineer. No show is perfect by any means (and this truth is NOT meant to bash in anyway), with that being said whomever this person was needs to get more practice before he/she books another show. Too obvious to ignore the music would start off fine then when it was time to loop the track, it didn't. Another song would come on, play for a bit then go back to the original track. Also, there was a loud screech or a short period of silence before the song repeated. To the models credit they remained PROFESSIONAL, and in character as they kept modeling through the technical difficulties. The models of PSDSM are a profession and diligent group of men/women with focus as to not have shown any appearance of surprise on their faces, cudos to Annette Jeminez for choosing these models to represent her and Plus Size Diva-Stud Magazine!

This event being the first of many I hope left a lasting impressionon me; I also hope that Annette Jeminez and her team of beauties will continue to inspire plus sizes, straight sizes, and all those that have yet to be claimed! I'm proud and I also appreciate the work that you do in fashion and within your community.

Enough with the talk...ON WITH THE PICS‼️

Belly Dance Or Die! Plus Size Rhythmically Hypnotizing Art Of Dance

Plus Size Belly Dancer Adina Gamal.

Who says a big girl can't Belly Dance? Certainly not Adina Gamal! What this beauty has done only few voluptuous ladies dare to perform. Using tantric hip thrusts, while moving seductively to hypnotizing music, Adina has made a traditionally straight size dance available to plus size women who are daring enough to put on a jeweled bustier and skirt, harem pants, or any other body reveling outfit and sensually dance in front of a room of strangers! Talk about a rush of adrenaline! Allowing yourself to be completely taken over by the tantric sounds of the music, while putting all of your emotions into visually intoxicating sequence of moves. Exciting isn't it?

With roots in various Middle Eastern countries, belly dancing  is a type of performance art usually done by women who are societal slim, very flexible, and in some way studied the art of different dances. Due to the athleticism and controlled movements involved in the dance, we can see why plus size women didn't attempt to master such a physically challenging dance....UNTIL NOW!

Adina started belly dancing as a means to gain confidence, also what better way for a plus sized woman to show tenacity of ones self than to sever the ties that bind plus size women to being unattractive, undesirable, and un-sensual. By expressing herself through something as difficult as belly dancing Adina has set the bar high for what expectations are regarding the abilities of voluptuous women. Intrigued by the concept I had to interview Adina check out what happens!

Interview with Adina GAMAL:

ME: How does belly dancing make you feel? Do you feel sexy, seductive, etc.? How much does your alter ego take over when your performing?

ADINA GAMAL:  Belly dance or die.... Belly dancing makes me feel beautiful confident sexy and it also makes me feel like I'm in another world it out of body experience when I'm on stage much like Beyonce has Sasha Fierce take over, Adina takes over Adina Gamal takes over janine is not the same person.

ME: I want to know how well received was plus size belly dancing when you first started? How did you feel, and what was the audience reactions?

ADINA GAMAL:  When I first started belly dancing people made fun of me I actually had a cyber stalker I still do actually he sometimes going to my post and makes fun of me many people didn't believe I was a belly dancer I've even had people tell me that I would never perform professionally do to my size.
ME:  What is the message you want to convey to people regarding belly dancing for plus women?

ADINA GAMAL:  I've helped to change perceptions of many people through the love for the dance in existing the beauty that I have inside and on stage as a very good dancer.

Well said Adina, well said. She has definitely created a new and exciting get platform for curvy woman to have fun, engage in low impact exercising, and feel sexy at the same time; what woman or man for that matter can argue with that? I for one can't wait to catch the show. Together with nine performance instructors Adina has created PlusSizeBellyDancersConvention.com, they offer workshops and guide you through mastering the Art of belly dancing. Also, they've hosted their first Belly Dancers Convention with another in the works for 2015, I love a woman with vision and ambition!
