Conversations Inside My Head

So, I'm randomly trying to decide if I should go the gym today or get in some much needed writing for my second book. That's when the thought hit me. At the event last weekend in Newark I met a woman who is very much into fitness, and talking to people about it. NOTHING is wrong with that, but I do think her delivery needs improving.

So I kind of took that as her insinuating that I am glorifying and unhealthy lifestyle by writing a book about full figured women in the fashion industry. I'm a lover of fashion and I like to look good when ever I go somewhere, so yes fashion is a huge part of being confident and about being a woman comfortable in my skin.  So yes I want to have things that are well-suited to my body so why not write a book a fictional novel about such women who are empowering themselves through fashion; in the fashion industry and becoming major players.

This event is about the EMPOWERING  of Full Figured Women, this is not the arena to preach weight loss. Healthy habits maybe, but not full on beast mode.

So, she happened to stop by my table (I vended the event) and said my book seems interesting, but I (me) have to admit that extra weight is bad. If you could see my face!

I told her being healthy IS NOT equated to size in particular. It's about how you live. You don't have to be super thin to be healthy or super fat to have health issues. I take myself for example, I told her I've lost over 135lbs. Yet to her I'm still an obese woman. I was trying to emphasize that you don't know where people come from so you cannot criticize where they are going because you don't know where they are in their journey to getting healthy. You cannot assume that because a person has a little extra weight that they are not doing what is needed to get healthier for themselves and not for the general public.

And in any case, I think her intentions were well intended; but poorly delivered.

Any who...until I have the next CONVERSATION IN MY HEAD‼️ TTYL πŸ’‹

Hello beautiful people! My name is Dominique Ali, I'm 29 from New Jersey as of now I'm a size 26; and I'm a plus size fashion blogger.

What makes me a Curvy Fashionista? Not taking no or allowing my size to hinder me from success as a plus size blogger/writer. Fashion and writing is my passion, combining the two loves makes me feel as if the double standard between plus sizes and straight sizes doesn't exist.

I started fashion blogging, because I felt like plus size fashion was under appreciated and didn't get the notice it deserved. Hey, Big girls want to look good too! And why shouldn't we? Thus, Fashion Plus Blog (www.Fabulouslyp.blogspot.com) was born. In my blog I touch on other issues in the plus community that no other blogger talked about that I wanted to be voiced; so I gave voice to them myself. Also, I've recently had Gastric Sleeve surgery to improve the quality of my health. I've been documenting my progress pre and post surgery you can view my videos on Youtube (www.Youtube.com/user/dom4fashionplus).

My motto: Raise the bar so high, that there is no bar.

The Diary of a FAT FASHIONISTA: I don't have anything to wear!

Hello! Lovely, Fluffy, Divas! In the Confessions series we addressed plus size lifestyles that included careers, love, relationships, mental, physical, & emotional aspects of being FAT in a skinny world. In this series, were going to focus more on the journey plus size women take through fashion and coming into their own. Though it's talked about all throughout this blog, this series will be geared for women like myself who have a hard time staying on trends, keeping up with the seasons must have 'IT' item, and everything in between due to the fact that we are slightly heavier than the more solid plus size women. In other words, we might have a little extra in our tummy pockets then other women. This is for the extra meaty sistas of the world, I got you!

I've been going through my closet trying desperately to find something different to wear; The worst feeling in the world is to realize you have absolutely nothing or that you've worn everything in there at least more
than a dozen times. What's a girl to do! Ok ladies, I'm not the only fluffy woman who's thighs rub and because of that your pants start to show wearing in that area; so I know the pain of having to fix a good pair of pants because of it. Also, we truly get tired of mixing and matching the same items over and over. If any of you are like me and crave variety  then we know the same old wardrobe just won't due.

So, whats a big girl to do? First things first, 'New Year' new revelations! Use your connections or make some if you don't have any. Be a little more friendly when going into a store to make a purchase. Become friends with the sales people, in doing that you will find out when new items are coming in; or when something goes on sale. These people will become your fashion insiders; telling you what you need to know.

Next, though you may know this already shop clearence, not just any clearence ALL clearance. We all have our favorite spots to shop, but try to branch out. Go to stores you wouldn't  normally go to find a deal. Basically be more flexable, just because a store doesn't traditionally sell plus sizes doesn't mean they don't have wardrobe pieces that can work with you style. for example, I use to avoid J.C. Penny like the plague because what they offered in plus sizes was hiddious! Some garments fell apart in the wash, lost color, or stretched out. Because of that i stopped shopping there, now I visit a little more often and stick to  the items I now would look good, fit, and above all LAST! I will never find a a pair of pants there to fit me, but at least I can find a good, inexpensive top.

Finally, ladies we have to get over the fear of the dressing room. This is the place nightmares are made of. I remember when I use to be so scared to go into the dressing room and be disappointed that my heart would pound has I opened the door. Dramatic? Yes. The truth? Hell yes! I don't know if I've completely gotten over the anxiety, but I do know that I've learned how to not let it strike fear in me.

Have you taken something in the dressing room and you were sure it would fit or that you would look good in it, only to find out that it doesn't even come close to what your imagination thought it would look like? Yeah, I've done that too. So, whats the point? How is this going to help you? I'll tell you how. Try not to be upset by the fact that whatever the item is that is doesn't flatter your body, recognize the fact that your found out in the dressing room and not at home, work, or a night out. It's the worse when your busy throughout your day and you have a wardrobe malfunction. So, think of it as saving you from spending money that would be better spent on something that would actually look good.

ARE PLUS SIZE WOMEN VAIN?

Ladies, lets face it. Although we are plus size we are very vain in a way when it comes to letting the world know that we hold ourselves at a high standard even if they don't. We view it as a shame if your plus sized and not well maintained, in that we may try to squeeze into clothes that have long stop fitting; THIS MUST STOP! In our vanity, we refuse to see that though we're plus size weight has been gained making the size were are, become the size we were. Stop buying things in your old size in an attempt to save face with the fact that your maintain your size instead of growing out of it. Try making positive changes in your diet. Look, I'm no nutritionist but I have the same problem and I try to make healthier choices as to not grow out of my clothes. We all know the bigger you are the more money the clothes cost, but allowing your muffin top to take center attention over your personality, style, and essence of being is a far
bigger crime.

I'm not therapist, but I call it like it is. I talk about things that have happened to me, or I've gone through myself. Shopping isn't always a quick therapy session, but if your going out to the malls to find something to wear; don't bring baggage with you. If you do, all you will bring how with you is more baggage than what you had the first time. Let the weight of finding something to wear go (no pun intended) in order to find something that fits.

Stay plus size, sexy, and confident!

Can We Talk For Real? The Mens Weigh In: What Do Men Really Want To Say, But Too Afraid Too?

On this blog we've mostly talked about the ladies, and issues that concern us. This time the fellas should be heard, and their feelings and thought brought to light. Men mostly are simple creatures, all they need is food, sex, & sports( in that order!). But sometimes they have things they want to say that we ladies are not letting them.

So, fellas THIS IS YOUR CHANCE to say how you really feel about the beautiful women in your life; past, present, & future. I will submit a few question to get the ball rolling; feel free to add some of your own and see the response you get from both men and women. Please answer honestly, and not be embarrassed to go all out and really express your self. So, LETS GET IT!

1. What kind of woman is your woman compared to your dream girl?

2. How would you like her to greet you after working all day?

3. In sex, what makes her a cut above the rest? Or what what do you want her to do that she doesn't anymore or ever?

4. If you could give her better characteristics, what would they be?

5. If you could change anything, what would you change and why?

6. Are men attracted to the type of woman other men approve of? In other words do your friends dictate the type of
women you would date?

7. Is it more difficult to be with a partner of a different race than your own? If so, how?

8. Are you ok with your woman having male friends that are straight?

9. Can you be just friends with a woman? And is your partner ok with that relationship?

10.  If you could sleep with your woman's friend, would you? If so why?

11. What would be your porn star name? (Start with the first name of you first pet, and you last name is the name of the street you live on).

12. Thick, thin, meaty, or baby got BACK! How do you like women shaped?

13. Do you like what she wears? If not what would you change?

14. In shopping, how much is too much to spend? Does she go overboard?

Ok, guys here are some question to wrap your mind around. If you have any for me or want to post your own feel free. REMEMBER  please be honest, but not too nasty. Like I said before MEN, IT'S YOUR TURN TO SPEAK! So, let yourself be heard; break the all and chain.

SIDE NOTE:  This should never be how you feel when your in a relationship>>>>>>

CONFESSIONS of a Plus Size Fashion Blogger: My decision to go NATURAL!

Hi beautiful people! I want to talk to you guys about why I decided to go natural, but let's start from the beginning...I don't remember exactly when I my hair relaxed for the first time, but if I had to guess I would say about age 6 or 7. The first time, my mom let her friend put the relaxer in my hair for her because she had to work and she wanted my hair neat for school. Well, this woman put it in; but she put the WRONG relaxer in my head! I know what your thinking...your thinking how did she put the wrong one in my hair? Good question, it's because she wanted to use the kiddie relaxer my mom bought me to put in her daughters hair. NOT COOL right? And the relaxer she put in my hair was an adult Dark and Lovely; waaaay too strong for my thin, virgin hair! So, you know moms was upset I don't know what happened to them as friends after that, but I do know she NEVER let her put her hands in my hair ever again. Luckily, only a small patch of my hair came out, but she did my hair in such a way that no one could tell anything was wrong. Thus, starting my up and down love affair with relaxers.

I was never that girl that relaxes her hair every three months, honestly I only did it every six months(twice a
year), and in between I occasionally went to a beauty salon. But even relaxing twice a year gave me lots of breakage, also after my hair began to grow out from the relaxer I didn't  wrapping my hair at night; this also contributed split ends, breakage, and un-even length.

In my search to find myself (hair wise) I cut, colored, streaked, fried, dyed, payed to the side, curled, braided, and weaved (very little) my hair to find my identity. And every single one of the mentioned thing s we not to my benefit. First off, my hair is naturally long. Problem is its thin so if I wanted a styled ponytail I needed a hair piece or what we call in the hood a track.  Really, my problem was that every girl around me had short hair that those were the type of styles they did that were cute, so I wanted to be cute as well; only my hair could do all those styles despite me trying anyway.

So, after more than a decade of relaxing I've decided to go natural. To me it's very freeing! When it rains I don't have to wear a hat, and use an umbrella to keep my hair dry, or run and duck under onings. I've also experienced a lot of hair growth, shine, and strength due to my decision for natural hair. Please check out my
YOUTUBE page to watch my video on natural hair called Natural hair: my nightly routine for advice. I think because I've grown up and I'm no longer trying to find my identity that now I'm able to let go of some constraints the were put on me for being plus size, black, a woman, that I can now just LIVE; that's the best feeling ever!

Don't let ads like this make you believe that this is what you need to do to be beautiful. It really doesn't matter if you relax, perm, or go natural with your hair as long as you are comfortable with the health, and strength or your mane.

Plus size or full figured doesn't mean FAT!

For years women have been laboring under the misconception that a curvy woman is automatically considered a FAT woman. The stigma has lasted for as long as fashion has existed. Why? It was always thought that a woman has a shape outside of a straight line, she is fat or more commonly known as now is obese. This concept is simply not true. Like everything else in life there are degrees to measure the body type of a woman.

But I'm not talking about measuring, I'm more concerned with how we as women are made to feel when it's suggested that to be attractive you have to fit this perfect mold that all or most people want to be categorized as.

No! You do not have to be fat to be plus size. What prompted me to discuss this further it a conversation I had with a friend. During this conversation I realized I knew many people who thought of curvy women as plus size; including themselves. And for some women to come to the realization that they are not the size they use to be or not the size they want to be is scary. So what happens? You  and I both know what happens... They go after clothing that doesn't make them feel good or sexy, but depressed because it doesn't drape the right way on their bodies.

Question: Why do we lie?

Why is it so hard to come to grips with the fact that 'I need a bigger size?'  Why when we consider cars, money, houses, etc bigger is better; with people sweet is petite? And it echoes so loudly that soon that's all we hear and it becomes our obsession. Healthy is one thing forcing your body to conform to another persons standards is another story entirely.

Looking at clothing ads for full figured women you will see that most of those women are not plus size because their FAT; but because they have large breast, and wide hips. In what world is LARGE BREASTS and WIDE HIPS ever wrong?

Listen, I am every bit full figured. I have large breasts, wide hips, round stomach and yes I could be healthier but over all I am happy with myself.  I would rather buy clothes that fit and look good on me regardless of its size; then to buy something much smaller, makes me look a HOT MESS, and get me all the wrong attention simply out of pure vanity of a number size no one will see because the tags are on the inside of my clothes... Tell me what is the problem with that?

No, you don't have to be fat to be considered full figured; but you do have to be dumb to consider yourself anything short of it!

As always stay beautiful, confident, and sexy! Leave any comments below. I thank you for all your support and please visits my other pages:

Lost In You

If you follow my blog, Facebook, or YouTube page then you know I love to write. Nothing makes me feel better especially on times of stress. The best thing about writing is the places the story can take you, the images in your mind, and the mystery of the authors meaning. Writing is a wonderful outlet, has beautiful imagery, and if its a great body of work can stimulate others. This poem I wrote is one that suggests mystery(for me anyway), I wonder if you can guess what is being talked about?

Lost In You:

You've caressed my face with your warm feel,
Intoxicated my senses with your sweet sent,
I've danced to your song, loving the rhythm you gave me,
Taking the deepest of breaths,
I'm lost in you.

I am lost in your your eyes and what lies underneath,
The deepest of browns that pierce through me,
I've inhaled your honeyed breath,
And tasted the sweetest of flavors,
Engulfed by your essence,
I bend to your pleasure,
I'm lost in you.

I've traced and outlined your body too many times to count,
Chronicling a blueprint in my mind of the reaction you've caused,
I've slept in the softness of you;hours of bliss,
To awaken comforted by the memory of your kiss,
I am lost in you.

*I wrote this with the intent to bring life to something that had none. I guess this was my attempt at showing growth as a writer. Please try and see if you can figure out what or who I'm talking about.
